2nd Wisbech Scout Group Newsletter
May 2008

Hello Parents/Carers

Just a short letter to let you know about forthcoming events we hope you will support and to let you know some of the things our young people have been up to.

Forthcoming events

Annual General Meeting

This is being held at Scout HQ, Oldfield Lane, Wisbech on Friday 6th June at 7.30p.m. We hope as many of you as possible will attend and help elect a new committee. Maybe you would like to join us if you have a little time to spare and help run the Scout Group and have a say in what your children do. Any ideas or suggestions you may have are always welcome – as they say “every little helps”. Please remember without a committee the Group cannot run.

Charity Stall – Wisbech Market

The Group are holding a charity stall on Wisbech Market on Saturday 21st June. If anyone can help run the stall or donate any cakes or bric-a-brac to sell these would be gratefully received – please see your Section Leader.

West Walton School Summer Fete

We are having a stall at West Walton Primary School in West Walton on Saturday 28th June to help promote scouting and raise funds for the Group. Again, any help or donations would be welcome.

Parson Drove Vintage Car Show

On Sunday July 6th the Scouts and Explorers are helping out at the Parson Drove Vintage Car Show at Parson Drove Village Hall Car Park. There will also be a Scouting awareness cake and raffle stall. Any help or donations would be greatly appreciated.

Recent events

Scouts and Explorers Mepal Skills Weekend

On the weekend of Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th April our Scouts and Explorers spent a very enjoyable weekend at Mepal Outdoor Centre taking part in a competition doing various outdoor pursuits such as kayaking, fencing, shooting and sailing.

Below are some pictures of the event – for more please see our website at www.2ndwisbechscoutgroup.zoomshare.com

Ride for Ryder

Recently 3 of our Explorers took a break

from revision for their GCSEs to take part

in "Ride for Ryder" in Ely on a Sunday morning.

They were inspired to do something to help the

Sue Ryder charity, after a representative from

the charity attended an Explorer Scout meeting

to tell the group about the work of the Sue Ryder

charity.  James Nott, Lewis Parnell and James Geddis

all entered the event and cycled the 17 mile route in

just under 3 hours.  They have raised over £170

between them in sponsorship.
